From what I've been reading, regarding the Jesus Prayer, I couldn't help but think about the dynamics of the prayer itself. You touched up on what I had thought about as I recite it: fostering of humility. outside of invoking the Holy Name, I see the prayer as a way of not just fostering humility within, but also hearing the cries of others (this line of thinking may be a little far fetched) for mercy, calling us to be merciful to others, too.
